Rugged Romance & Luxury at Timber Cove Resort

Reminiscing on our stay at Timber Cove…

MY Husband and I Found ourselves needing a quick escape…

So I reached out to the team at Timber Cove. I’ve sold Timber Cove in conjunction with Napa and Sonoma itineraries in the past and I’ve always been fascinated with the property.

One week later, we found ourselves twisting and turning up Highway 1 from our home in Sonoma County. It was foggy and you could just see the towering redwoods peeking through the mist.

The drive was enjoyable, feeling itself like an escape from the norm. When the weather cooperates, the vistas would be breathtaking.

After an hour or so, we arrived at Timber Cove. Set on 25 acres of Pacific coastline, the property is the destination. Outside of a local gas station, the nearest town, Jenner, is 45 minutes away.

Upon Check In We were greeted by Adam, The Rooms Manager…

Adam was extremely warm, welcoming, and professional. He upgraded our room and provided us with all we need to know about the property. Did you know that Timber Cove is home to the second smallest State Park in California - The Bufano Peace Statue Monument? For any photography buffs - this statue (and hotel) was a favorite subject of Ansel Adams.

We made our way to our Ocean View Room and spent the rest of the evening working, reading, and enjoying a local Pinot Noir. For dinner, we ordered room service. I had the Sole in a Lobster Cream Sauce and my husband opted for the Short Ribs. Our dinner came quickly and the food was divine. We hit the lobby bar for after dinner cocktails to-go and returned to our room to enjoy the fireplace. Electric fireplaces are the main heat source of most rooms on property and are easily controlled by a Nest Thermostat.

After a relaxing night of sleep….

We awoke to another foggy day on the coast. While we were disappointed we couldn’t take in the magnificent views the property is known for, the haze lent the entire property a romantic and intimate feel. And the beds? My husband claims it was one of the most comfortable beds he has ever slept in. The fireplace would come on intermittently throughout the night and cast a warm, cozy glow over the room.

After a pour-over coffee in the room, I met members of the Timber Cove team, Kendall and Megan, for a site visit. Not all rooms are created equal at Timber Cove (they are all different). Depending on your stay preferences, our team can help pick the best room category for you and your crew - we’ve seen them all.

My husband and I enjoyed our late checkout time before grabbing burgers for the road from their restaurant - Coast Kitchen. Our stay was a much needed escape in a very locked-down California. While it was only one night and COVID restrictions kept us mostly confined to our room, Timber Cove is romantic and rugged. It pairs perfectly with a wine country itinerary or a longer journey north on Highway 1. Two nights is the perfect amount of time to experience all the property has to offer before moving on…

We are looking forward to visiting again post COVID for outdoor dining, bellying up to the bar, and foosball & pingpong on the patio. We are eagerly anticipating the return of their live music (Wednesdays) and wine tasting with local vineyards (Tuesday and Thursdays).

LUXE & NYX Tip -

Coming from San Francisco, stop in Bodega Bay for lunch. Our favorite spots are Fishetarian for their fish and chips and Fisherman’s Cove for fresh, shuck-your-own Oysters and local Dungeness crab cocktail. Take your lunch and eat al fresco at Doran Beach while watching the fishing & sailing boats come into the Bay. Drive north to Jenner Headlands for a post-lunch hike. The Raptor Ridge and Sea-to-Sky trail give you wonderful views of the Pacific and the opportunity to hike through a field of cattle (dogs welcome on leash - but make sure your dog isn’t afraid of cows!). It’s steep at the beginning, but the views make up for the effort. Finally, arrive at Timber Cove and treat yourself to a glass of local wine and a snack of deviled eggs before settling in front of your fireplace for a relaxing evening with your traveling companion(s).
